Red Cross assisting family following Claremont apartment fire

The FDNY says a person was seriously hurt and three others were injured during a house fire Wednesday afternoon in Canarsie.

Fire officials say flames broke out in the basement of 10709 Ave. J just before 2:45 p.m.

The blaze was placed under control in just over 30 minutes.

One resident suffered serious injuries that were not life-threatening. Three others were recovering from minor injuries as of Wednesday evening, according to the FDNY.

News 12 reached out to the Red Cross but had not received a response as of Wednesday evening.

A cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
