A person and a dog died, and three fire fighters were injured after a Sunday afternoon fire at an apartment complex in Danbury.
Fire officials say the Danbury Emergency Communications Center received a report of the fire on Kohanza Street shortly after 1 p.m.
Responding crews were told that there were possibly two occupants trapped on the second floor.
A Danbury volunteer firefighter who had been driving by the complex and noticed smoke emanating from a window told a crew there was an active fire on the second floor.
As more crews arrived, firefighters initiated a rescue effort by entering the impacted apartment through a second-floor window.
Firefighters found an unconscious individual and removed the person through the window and down a ladder.
Crews administered life-saving procedures, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fire officials say crews also located and removed a dog during their initial search.
Attempts to revive the dog were unsuccessful.
The three firefighters who were injured were taken to Danbury Hospital to be treated for minor burns.
A cause of the fire was not immediately known.
