The American Academy of Pediatrics made a major update Friday to their recommendations for limiting children's time watching TV, using electronic devices and playing video games.
Prior to the change, the academy recommended that children under 2 years old should not have any significant screen time.
Doctors now says it is acceptable for children under 2 years old to Skype or FaceTime.
The group still recommended that children between 2 and 5 years old be limited to one hour of screen time per day, and parents are urged to choose high-quality programming.
For older children, there is no specific time limit, but the AAP recommends that families continue limiting the use of technology and encourage an hour of physical activity each day, as well as plenty of unplugged family time.
