A West Islip man has been arrested for allegedly fatally striking a 27-year-old with his vehicle on Robert Moses State Causeway.

New York State Police say they responded to the call at around 1:38 p.m. on Thursday for a report of an unconscious man on the shoulder near the southbound areas of Exit RM2. The man was visibly dead and was later identified as Yusuf Gul of Bay Shore.

After a further investigation by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation it was determined that Stephen M. Aylward, 63, of West Islip was operating a 2012 Jeep when he struck Gul on the should of the causeway.

State police say Alyward was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired as well as combined influence of drugs or alcohol and drugs.
