With a massive influx of people trying to travel abroad after a year cooped up inside, the Passport Agency is encouraging everyone to apply early.

On the United States Passport website, it warns expedited service could take 12 weeks due to mail delays, which is double the time it normally takes.

Claudine Howson is taking a trip on July 14th to Bulgaria for her brother's wedding but has yet to receive her new passport. She applied for an expedited passport at the end of May, but still no word.

This is also the case for Hartsdale resident Sandy Daniels,  who plans to take her mom to Aruba for her 90th birthday. They could lose nearly $3,000 in flights and hotel fees if they can't make the trip.

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner is calling for members of Congress to investigate these passport delays and push for a solution.

Rep. Mondaire Jones says his office is working to expedite passports, but they have limited ability due to the delays.
