Officials are warning parents about possible drug-tainted candies and other edibles as Halloween approaches.
They say marijuana candy may look and be packaged like regular candy, but can contain high levels of Tetrahydrocannabinol. THC is the main active ingredient in marijuana that causes a high.
"It takes a lot longer time to be absorbed, like up to two hours," says Dr. Paul Pipia, of Nassau University Medical Center. "Kids can binge on it and eat much more than they can handle."
Pipia says side effects include hallucinations and disorientations.
Medical officials say parents should check candy packages carefully.
