PTA members and the school superintendent are urging caution to parents after a Half Hollow Hills West student-sponsored ski trip led to several drug and alcohol arrests.
Superintendent Dr. Sheldon Karnilow says pictures of the trip on the Internet showed alcohol, bags of marijuana and students involved in drinking. He says the district is very proactive when it comes to keeping kids away from drugs and alcohol, and that the entire senior class participated in an anti-drug program a month before the trip. PTA co-president Robbie Austin says the incident shows parents have to be more involved in their children?s lives.
Action Tours of Amityville organized the trip, but has so far been unavailable for comment.
