Outrage is mounting over a plan to build a lithium battery storage facility in Hampton Bays.
The Town of Southampton is considering building the site on a nearly 5-acre site on North Shore Road in Hampton Bays.
The planning board says it would store power generated by solar and wind farms to promote clean energy.
Residents say they don't want the flammable batteries so close to their front doors.
"It hasn't been around long enough. It's new technology and we're very concerned because the facility would be located in a residential area," says Ray D'Angelo, of Hampton Bays. "These facilities have and can suffer catastrophic failure."
The meeting Thursday was the second public hearing on the issue.
