On The Road: The Madonia Bakery in the Bronx

Oh God. Alright well hopefully you've got some, some goodies over there that that do not include scotch and a special guest. So we are actually inside Madonia bakery and we have a special guest with here we have daniel cologne. No more. Thanks for joining us, this is the owner of Madonia bakery. Thanks for joining us. Thanks for having me. Yeah. So what can people expect when visiting Arthur Avenue? Sure Arthur Avenue is known as the real little Italy here in the Bronx in the Belmont neighborhood and in our neighborhood we have many small businesses, family run businesses that have been around for some over 100 years like ours here, Madonia baker has been around for 100 and four years and is now in its fourth generation of family ownership um and that goes for our, all of our bakeries are pastry shops are fish markets are butchers are solu Maria's our gift shops, specialty stores, all of these family owned businesses and small businesses that have been around for a really long time wow, I'm so happy to be here and just like thanks for having us as well. So we have a special event happening this summer. Can you tell us a little bit about that? Sure thing. We host a pharaoh Gosta festival every year this year, it'll be on sunday september 11th and it originally started as an ancient festival honoring the gods to help with the harvest and you know wish for a good crop that year um and we've kind of taken it today to be an opportunity to share all the best italian and italian american goods that we have to offer on Arthur Avenue. So it's perfect family friendly event. We have, you know, families that come with their grandparents and their great grandparents down to their great grandchildren and everybody loves it. It's a great place to get some italian food and italian treats. I'm super excited for it. And what's your favorite part of the festival? My favorite part has to be the families that come that have been our customers for decades for a century that have been coming here since they lived in the neighborhood, since their parents lived in the neighborhood. They came here as Children and now they bring their Children and they still buy the same things and it's, it's just a wonderful place to be. There's entertainment, there's food, there's culture, it's just a really fun day. Well, thanks so much for joining us. I'm super excited about the festival. I hope you guys are to remember.
