Officials on the East End assessed the damage to the pavilion at Cupsogue Beach after a massive fire razed the structure Saturday night.
County and town officials toured what was left of the popular Cupsogue Beach County Park Pavilion Monday.
Westhampton Beach fire officials say they got the call around 8 p.m. When they arrived, Chief John Bancroft says the pavilion was fully engulfed. It took 18 fire departments more than 12 hours to extinguish the flames.
The concession stand, restrooms, showers and first aid station were all reduced to piles of charred rubble.
County leaders say the focus over the next few months will be coming up with a plan to rebuild. County Executive Steve Bellone calls it one of the jewels of the county parks system that will reopen next summer.
News 12 has been told the boardwalks leading to the parking area and beach were not damaged. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
