A large brush fire broke out in Brookhaven Tuesday afternoon, Suffolk fire officials say.
News 12 is told the fire began around 1 p.m. in the woods on the westbound side of Sunrise Highway between Horse Block and Station roads.
The Brookhaven fire chief tells News 12 that over 6 acres of land were burned.
Around 100 firefighters from 14 departments responded to the scene to fight the flames that were being fueled by drought conditions and the wind.
One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion.
Another brush fire was reported Tuesday on County Route 83 in Suffolk County.
