Police say an officer and a suspect were hurt in a Lattingtown shooting last night.

Nassau County police say a special operations officer conducted a traffic stop on Horsehollow Road near Locust Valley Middle School at around 10 p.m. yesterday.

Police say Leo Duchnowski, 22, hit the officer with his car in an attempt to flee. The officer injured his knee after being struck by the vehicle.

Authorities say the officer fired three shots while on the ground with one of the bullets hitting the suspect.

Police say Duchnowski has a lengthy rap sheet and is on parole for drug-related charges. Both he and the officer were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

According to detectives, Bureau of Special Operations CIRRT officers were conducting a drug investigation in the vicinity of 99 Horse Hollow Road, when they initiated the car stop.

Officials have not released the name of the officer involved.

Duchnowski is being charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and numerous drug charges. He is being held pending arraignment.
