Soon drivers and pedestrians will not only be able to see or hear an approaching police car, they'll be able to feel its sirens too.
The New York Police Department is launching an initiative to get people's attention by installing new ground-shaking devices into many of their vehicles. The rumbler sirens can shake the ground up to 200 feet away.
NYPD Fleet Services Director Bob Martinez says 150 patrol cars will test out the new technology for six months in lower Manhattan. If the pilot goes well, the rest of the city could have the sirens next year.
