The NYPD says an officer fatally shot a man who fired his gun at police while trying to flee a traffic stop in Downtown Brooklyn.
Police say a Public Safety Unit saw a car making multiple traffic violations when they decided to stop the vehicle on Flatbush Avenue.
After roughly 8 minutes, officers asked the occupants to exit the car. That's when the passenger got out and started running.
Police say an officer chased the man for nearly three blocks before the suspect fired multiple shots. The officer returned gunfire and hit the man in the chest.
The suspect was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The NYPD says the investigation is ongoing.
