Police say two 22-year-old men were injured during a shooting early Saturday morning in Prospect Heights.
Authorities say it happened outside of Atlantic and Vanderbilt avenues around 2:41 a.m.
They say one man was shot in the chest and the other in the arm. Both victims were hospitalized in stable condition.
News 12 spoke with residents like Varsha Subrahmanyan who was shocked to hear about the incident.
"I'm surprised. I've lived in this neighborhood for four years and have generally felt pretty safe in this area," Subrahmanyan said.
Despite generally feeling safe in the area, she thinks the neighborhood would still benefit from safety improvements.
“I think Atlantic [Avenue] could benefit from better lighting. I think it could sometimes be uncomfortable to walk on the sidewalks near Atlantic," she added.
Police say the suspect is a male who was wearing all black clothing at the time of the incident. He fled northbound on Clinton Avenue.
It was still not clear as of Saturday night as to what led to the shooting.
