The NYPD says three shootings took place within five hours in the northern part of Manhattan on Tuesday.
Police say a 16-year-old male was shot in Manhattan Tuesday morning at around round 9:49 a.m. and found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds in the abdomen.
Witnesses told the NYPD that the shooting resulted from a dispute involving a group of five teens. The shooting incident took place near a high school located at 170 Amsterdam Ave.
The NYPD says a 19-year-old male suspect was taken into custody and that a firearm was recovered.
The victim was transported to NYPresbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center and is in stable condition, according to police.
Another shooting incident took place at the intersection of East 125th Street and Madison Avenue.
A 16-year-old and a 27-year-old man were shot just before 1 p.m. as four students walked out of Renaissance High School before being approached by at least three males. A physical altercation ensued before multiple gunshots. Three shooters were seen fleeing down East 127th Street wearing all dark clothes. Police believe the 16-year-old was the intended target.
The NYPD has deployed transit, housing, and school safety units to the area to slow the mobilization of the suspects. They say this will continue overnight into school arrival and dismissal on Wednesday.
A third incident took place at the intersection of East 105th Street and Park Avenue. NYPD officials say that no people were shot in this incident, and there is minimal information on the suspect at this time.
Police are operating under the pretense that there is gang involvement but have not released the name of any gang suspected to be involved.
