Eagle Academy got a surprise visit from a familiar face, as Schools Chancellor David Banks returned to his old stomping grounds for a Thanksgiving celebration.
The students and chancellor shared a Thanksgiving potluck lunch, which was followed by the unveiling of the 2021 and 2022 graduating class plaques.
Students swarmed Banks for photos and to speak with him. Banks said he felt all the love for this homecoming.
"I've been hugging everybody, I've been getting hugs from so many people and so many of the parents who are here," said Banks. "They've watched one of their own go on from being the principal, to being the chancellor of the New York City school system, so it's a great day."
Banks is a New York City public school graduate himself and is approaching his one-year anniversary as the chancellor.
