A new report on charity telemarketers finds that the bulk of donations don't go to those in need.
A 144-page report introduced today by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman found that the percentage of each donation that actually went to the charity was lower on Long Island than anywhere else in the state.
The report, called Pennies for Charities, looked at close to 600 telemarketing-fundraising campaigns across the state.
"Only 25 cents of every dollar donated by Long Islanders made its way to charity. The rest stayed with overhead, and mostly with the telemarketers," says Schniederman.
