The first doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine arrived at Northwell Health Monday.
Nurse Arlene Ramirez, who works at Long Island Jewish Valley Stream, was the first to receive the vaccine. The 44-year-old was stricken by the virus in March. The virus also claimed the life of her father.
Ramirez says this vaccine is hope that the pandemic will come to an end.
"We should not be afraid of obtaining the vaccine, we need to be afraid of COVID," says Ramirez. "Because it definitely changes people's lives and it takes and destroys life."
Ramirez will receive the second dose of the Moderna vaccine in 28 days.
