The pounding surf caused by Sunday's nor'easter has several Fire Island homes on the verge of slipping into the sea.The sand that the homes stood on has been eliminated by the strong waves from the last few days. The effects of the storm caused several decks and staircases to collapse. Some homes also had extensive damage done to their fireplaces.After a nor'easter in 1992, large homes on the beach toppled into the water days and weeks later.
