The Mega Millions jackpot is soaring once again - now reaching just above $1 billion.
It comes after no one hit all six numbers for Tuesday night's drawing.
The new jackpot is one of the largest in the games’ history, and the jackpot is expected to grow even more over the next couple of days.
The next drawing for this growing $1.02 billion jackpot is at 11 p.m. Friday.
“We’ve seen a ton of people. People we’ve never even seen before,” said Tara Graham, manager of Jays Cardsmart in East Islip. “Everybody is trying really hard because they’re really desperate!”
Even people who never gamble are trying their luck at Jays Cardsmart, and some of them are spending big bucks.
“Why wouldn’t you?” said Michele, who’s visiting from Virginia. “It’s $1 billion right? Why would you not?”
Graham says people are coming in and spending a lot of money. Others are playing it safe, keeping in mind the odds of winning are also in the millions - 1 in 303 million.
“I usually drop about $10 to $20 on this. You can’t get crazy with it,” said Jim Waugh, of East Islip.
The winner of the record Mega Millions jackpot back in 2018 bought a single ticket and won $1.5 billion.
