Nassau Inter-County Express bus service says it has figured out how to close its $5 million budget gap.
NICE presented its budget to the Nassau County Transit committee Thursday. Officials say they plan to take $3.8 million from the capital budget to help operate the system. NICE is also getting an additional $1.5 million from Nassau County.
Michael Setzer, the CEO of NICE, says the county really stepped up after the state failed to do so.
Nearly $4 million of the county's share will come from converting capital funds into operating expenses. NICE officials say that move will not affect the purchasing of new buses for this year.
NICE says that fares and service should all remain the same.
