Several of News 12’s scholar athletes were surprised with additional scholarship money.
News 12’s Kevin Maher headed to the students' houses to give out the Bob Wolff Memorial Scholarships.
Jordan Altman, of Glen Head, was one of the recipients of the scholarship named for News 12’s first sports director, who created the award.
He was given an additional $2,000 for his education.
“I’ve learned to take pride in things that are larger than myself,” Altman says. “To put myself in a position to help others, even if I am not benefitting from it, I benefit from seeing the effect it has on others.”
Twin track stars Victoria and Gloria Guerrier were also recipients of the award and given an extra $1,000 each to go to school.
“This helps tremendously, we have a balance left and this will help us pay it off,” says Victoria Guerrier.
The twins are going to Yale University. Altman is going to Rice University in Texas.
