Streets of the Lower East Side are buzzing with activity as filming takes place for "Marty Supreme," starring Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow. Vintage cars and mid-century storefronts have transformed the area into a 1950s backdrop.
This production is just one of many examples highlighting the city's film industry resurgence. According to a 2021 report, the film sector supports over 185,000 jobs and contributes $82 billion to the local economy. Recent September stats reveal 603 permits were issued for 189 projects shot on public property across New York City during the month.
The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment emphasizes the widespread economic benefits of the industry, from dry cleaners to florists, as local businesses see an uptick in demand. The city is committed to supporting this vital sector, which plays a key role in New York’s economic recovery.
