The subway system is coming up on its 120-year anniversary in October.

The New York Transit Museum just opened a new exhibit to take a ride through history on the subway's impact.

The exhibit is called 'The Subway is...," and invites commuters to reflect on what the transportation system means to them.

It features immersive exhibits, art work, history and more

Museum curator Jodi Shapiro tells News 12 why the exhibit and the subway's impact on history is so important.

"To keep connecting New Yorker to New Yorker. All the things that make humans different, it doesn't matter on the subway. Everyone pays the same fare," said Shapiro.

For more information on the exhibit, you can head to the New York Transit Museum's Website.
