New York gears up to open drive-through COVID-19 vaccine site at Jones Beach

New York State is gearing up to open a drive-through COVID-19 vaccination center at Jones Beach.
The center is expected to open on Thursday and will be open every day thereafter.
People were allowed to start making appointments for the location on Monday, but because there are now millions more people eligible to get the vaccine it has been difficult to obtain one.
The state website crashed, and the state Hotline was overloaded.
Donna Schaffer, of Dix Hills, told News 12 on Monday she couldn't get an appointment for her 96-year-old mother. Schaffer says that this morning, after four of them spent 24 hours trying to get an appointment, they were finally able to get her mother an appointment at Jones Beach for February.
New Island Pharmacy in Deer Park is not taking appointments until it has supply in stock. That could still take several weeks.
"I want them to know that the second it is out it will be available for them to schedule appointments," said Nidhin Mohan, of New Island Pharmacy.
Another drive-in center will open at Stony Brook University but no details have been released.
