Members representing all chapters of the NAACP in the Hudson Valley gathered in New Rochelle Saturday to hold a rally in support of New York State Attorney General Letitia James in her battle against federal bank fraud charges and alleged mortgage fraud.
James was indicted in October on charges that she bought a home in Virginia in 2020 and falsely listed it as a second home, instead of a rental property, in order to get a lower interest rate.
She also faces federal bank fraud charges.
Jenny Geer, of Mamaroneck, attended the rally to show her personal support for James.
"This is one of many protests. It gives everybody the courage to keep fighting. We give one another strength," she said.
James pleaded not guilty to all charges. She says she is a victim of "vindictive prosecution" by the Trump administration.
President of the New Rochelle NAACP Aisha Cook said she agrees.
"She is being attacked for doing her job. Women are being attacked for doing their jobs. We need to come together as Westchester branches. We need to make sure that we preserve our democracy. If we don't do it, it won't get done," she added.
Last year, James successfully brought a civil fraud case against President Donald Trump. She also leads several lawsuits that have challenged the Trump administration's polices.
Letitia James' trial is scheduled to start in January 2026.
