A new program on Long Island will give $50,000 to volunteer paramedics and firefighters to buy homes.

The incentive is being made possible with help from the Long Island Housing Partnership and Long Island Homes For Heroes.

Leaders say the program will help keep volunteers on Long Island as the cost of living in the area continues to climb.

"This program is desperately needed," says Bay Shore Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance President Peter Klopsis. "It's getting more difficult to retain volunteers."

A total of $26,000 of the grant is for down payment assistance and the other $24,000 is for renovations.
