New Jersey is in the midst of a heat wave that has lasted for five consecutive days.

Newark reported a high temperature of 97 degrees, with a heat index of 106 degrees. Temperatures broke records in New Jersey on Thursday.

Anyone who is spending any time outdoors is advised to take frequent breaks indoors, wear light and loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water.

Temperatures are expected to cool slightly this weekend and into next week.
