There's a new entrance procedure for North Babylon High School, one day after a pair of incidents at the school that police are investigating.
Students showing up to school are going to be asked to show proof that they attend North Babylon High School or will have to go through a separate entrance into the building.
The change comes just one day after two separate incidents at the school, including two arrests.
According to the school website, students will have to show their physical ID cards when they walk in the north and west entrances.
Students who do not have an ID with them will go through the front of the building.
Students' identities will be verified using profile photos.
Police say two 16-year-olds were arrested Tuesday morning for allegedly trespassing on school grounds.
They tell News 12 those teens are not North Babylon High School students.
Just hours later, police say swastikas were found drawn on a storage cabinet in a classroom.
They say the hate crimes unit is now investigating.
News 12 asked police if the two incidents are connected, and they say the investigation is ongoing.
The district shared the letter from the superintendent to parents with News 12:
May 13, 2025
Dear North Babylon School Community,
I am writing to inform you about two serious incidents that occurred today at North Babylon High School and to outline the steps we are taking to ensure the continued safety and well-being of our students, staff and community.
As a follow-up to my message to high school parents and families this morning, two unauthorized individuals were found on campus just before the start of the school day. School staff responded quickly and appropriately, and the police were immediately called. Officers from the Suffolk County Police Department arrived promptly and the individuals were apprehended without incident. Thankfully, no one was harmed. We are grateful for the swift action taken by our staff and the prompt response of the First Precinct.
As a result of the incident, and as part of our ongoing commitment, we are reviewing and strengthening our security protocols. Additional measures are being implemented to prevent unauthorized access to campus and to ensure a safe environment for everyone. High school families received a message from Dr. Klomp earlier today outlining new procedures to the high school’s morning entrance procedures.
In a separate and deeply troubling incident, a swastika was discovered written on a cabinet in a classroom at North Babylon High School. We take this act of hate very seriously. The symbol has no place in our school or society. The police have been notified and are actively investigating this matter. Acts of hate and intolerance will not be tolerated, and we are committed to fostering a school climate that is inclusive, respectful and safe for all.
We recognize that these incidents may be unsettling, and we want to assure you that the safety, security and wellness of our students are our top priorities.
Thank you for your continued trust and partnership as we work together to maintain a secure and supportive learning environment.
Regards,
Kenneth E. Graham, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
