The Nautical Mile is coming back in a big way after being shut down during the pandemic.
Local officials and merchants celebrated the reopening Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and touted the popular spot's attractions. Some of the area's spots have been closed since the very beginning of the pandemic.
They also announced details for the return of the Freeport Summer Festival, which was canceled last year. It's coming up this Saturday from 10 a.m. through 6 p.m., featuring food, games and rides.
This summer's celebration is expected to have a record turnout and bring thousands of visitors to the area.
Officials say the Nautical Mile is the largest concentrated area of outdoor bars, restaurants, cafes and venues in Nassau County.
