The Nautical Mile in Freeport is expected to get its first hotel in 2024.
A 100-room Hilton Garden Inn is scheduled to open on the spot where The Schooner once stood.
The seafood restaurant was closed because of Superstorm Sandy nearly a decade ago.
The hotel is expected to have a conference center, ballroom, a rooftop bar and lounge and a public promenade with waterfront access.
Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy says the project is set to cost more than $43 million but will also bring jobs and help boost businesses at other places and benefit Freeport.
"The development of this, this area down there, bring more business," Kennedy says. "More people to use the hotel will help develop or bring these businesses back during the winter time."
Kennedy says it will bring the village around $6 million in additional property tax.
The mayor says he hopes that the hotel and everyone it comes with will draw people to the Nautical Mile.
Residents nearby say they are not sure how the hotel will manage in the cold weather while others think it will do well.
"You go the whole mile, so you have the whole strip for the summer," one person tells News 12. "And then you got hotels there so it's going to be a win, win situation."
