Nassau police officer seriously injured while escorting funeral procession

He was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital for serious injuries and remains in critical condition.

A Nassau County police officer was seriously injured after a car crash in Lindenhurst on Monday.

Suffolk police say 53-year-old Officer Michael Hyland was escorting a funeral procession on a motorcycle when he collided with a 2020 Toyota Tundra on North Wellwood Avenue at Jerome Street at 11:08 a.m.

He was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital for serious injuries and remains in critical condition.

Police say that 61-year-old Jeffrey Geller, the operator of the Tundra, was not injured.

Police are asking anyone with information on this crash is asked to contact Major Case Unit detectives at 631-852- 6555.
