Nassau police say a Hempstead man is accused of intentionally crashing into a police car Saturday night after he fled from a traffic stop.
Authorities say two Nassau narcotics detectives tried to pull over a man on Long Beach Road in Island Park. However, they say the man refused to stop and took off.
Police say the two officers later found the man on Mahland Place, a dead-end street in Oceanside.
That's when detectives say the man put his Porsche in reverse at 50 mph and intentionally rammed into police vehicle, causing major damage to the car and injuring the two officers.
Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says the two officers continued to order the man to get out of his car, but he would not. He says they approached the man with a third officer and had a struggle before successfully removing him from his vehicle.
The officers were able to arrest 25-year-old Romaine Robinson, of Hempstead.
Police say they found a white substance on Robinson believed to be cocaine.
Robinson faced a judge on Sunday and will be back in court on Wednesday.
He's being held on $25,000 cash bail.
The officers were treated for their injuries at a hospital.
