The Nassau County police ESU team recently entertained patients at Cohen Children’s Medical Center by rappelling 40 feet from the building’s roof.
This is the second year the team has performed the special holiday greeting for hospital patients.
Among the group of elite members is 38-year-old Sgt. Rick Bruno, a former Army veteran.
The event holds a special significance for Bruno, who suffered a seizure on New Year’s Eve in 2002 and had brain surgery. He was 17 years old at the time.
Bruno says he understands how lonely being hospitalized during the holidays can be. He hopes the visit helps lift the spirits of young patients who cannot be home with their families.
