Nassau police say an 82-year-old woman was found dead in a Wantagh home on Saturday.
Detectives were still at the scene on Oakland and Roxbury avenues as of Saturday evening.
According to detectives, police responded to the home on Oakland Avenue for a welfare check. When police arrived, they say they found the 82-year-old woman deceased on the floor.
Neighbors told News 12 they are very concerned.
“Completely shocking. Not something we’ve ever expected to happen in a neighborhood, to happen in this neighborhood,” said resident Nicola Arteca.
“These things can happen anywhere, even in a quiet neighborhood like ours. It’s terrible, you know, but it’s just the world that we live in,” said Matthew Fernandez.
Detectives say there is no threat to the community.
A few streets were partially closed as of Saturday evening that included Roxbury Avenue, Oakland Avenue and Taft Street.
