A teenager is recovering from a compound fracture to his leg suffered during a Jet Ski accident Sunday afternoon in Point Lookout.

Nassau police say a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old boy were riding Jet Skis in the Jones Inlet when they crashed into each other around 12:45 p.m. Officials say one Jet Ski landed on top of the other during the crash.

A Nassau police helicopter transported the injured teenager to the hospital.

Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin says the teens may have been speeding when the collision occurred.

"It could have been more tragic, but it's also a stark reminder we live in this island, it's beautiful waterways, we have to be safe, we have to be smart," Clavin says.

The 15-year-old involved in the crash was not injured.
