Two people were killed and multiple people were injured in two separate crashes this weekend on the Long Island Expressway.
A wrong-way crash in East Hills shut down the L.I.E. for several hours and resulted in multiple injuries. It happened just before 7 a.m. between exits 36 and 38.
That section was closed off to traffic in both directions for nearly two hours.
"Debris everywhere. All kinds of debris, car parts. It was pretty bad," said an eyewitness.
The highway has seen reopened.
Authorities say two people were killed in single-vehicle car crash in the eastbound lanes of the L.I.E. Saturday night near Exit 70.
Authorities say the driver of the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt was ejected from the vehicle. The driver and a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.
