Nassau County legislators have introduced a bill that would ban transgender women from competing in female sports at county-run facilities. The bill is similar to an executive order signed by County Executive Bruce Blakeman, which was struck down in May by a New York Supreme Court judge.
The bill will head to committee on Monday and is expected to be voted on on June 24 at the next full meeting of the Nassau County Legislature.
Nassau County Democrats said Friday they believe the law is illegal and shouldn’t even be voted on.
The NY Civil Liberties Union filed the lawsuit that led to the initial order being blocked and on Friday called the new bill ‘despicable’ and vowed to take the county back to court.
