A memorial service was held in Mineola Monday to honor the five police officers gunned down in Dallas.
Instead of the Nassau County Police Department holding its "Top Cop" of the month at the Legislature, the department honored the officers killed on Thursday.
Nassau PBA President James Carver praised the officers for their work during the deadly shooting to protect people.
"Our police officers didn't run away there, in Dallas," Carver said. "They stood there, they gave aim and they protected those and even though they were protesting against the blue across this country, which they had every right to do, our police officers still protected those people."
