Nassau DA says person who tied mastiff to pole could face misdemeanor charge or felony
Authorities are asking anyone with information on Roxi, the mastiff found tied to a pole on the Southern State Parkway Monday, to call state police.
No one has been charged in connection with the case.
Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said, “There is no excuse for dumping a dog on the side of a major highway.”
Donnelly said the person responsible could face a misdemeanor charge for abandoning an animal and could face a felony of aggravated cruelty, depending on what they find as they “take care” of Roxi.
The dog was found near a note, which said in part, “See that she gets good care.”
DA Donnelly said that “leaving a note with well wishes just doesn’t cut it.”
The Town of Hempstead supervisor said they've received many calls about Roxi and there's already a list of people hoping to adopt her.
Anyone with information on the 4-year-old dog is asked to call 631-756-3300.
Officials said Roxi, while underweight, is doing well.
