Drivers in Nassau facing parking and traffic tickets will have to pay a county surcharge even if their violations are dismissed.
The county is charging a $10 to $40 processing fee on all violations. If a driver is found or pleads guilty, they will have to pay the fine and the fee.
The surcharge is only dropped if the driver is found not guilty, which happens if the ticketing officer is at fault and wrongly issued a ticket. Dismissals are not considered the same as being found not guilty.
In a statement to News 12, the county says the operator of the vehicle remains responsible for the administration fee, implemented in 2008 to cover expenses associated with processing the ticket.
