Nassau County officials say they are stepping up patrols in the wake of the military strikes in Iran.

The Hillside Islamic Center in New Hyde Park says they've seen police cars around the area.

They say they're worried for people in Iran and think these extra patrols are a good step to protect people in their area.

"We're very sad that this is what's happening, especially in the holiest month for Ramadan and also the lives and the loss of lives and potentially more lives to be lost," says Abdul Bhuiyan, with the Hillside Islamic Center.

President Donald Trump says the strikes could last several weeks.

The Hillside Islamic Center says they hope it ends sooner than that.
