Nassau County's fiscal watchdog group NIFA approved County Executive Ed Mangano's 2015 budget plan Monday night.
The plan includes a 3.4 percent property tax hike.
Republican and Democratic lawmakers had taken the tax increase out of the budget, but the county executive put it back in after NIFA threatened to impose drastic spending cuts if the hike didn't go through.
Even with the budget now approved, Democrats say they aren't giving up. They sent a letter to NIFA on Monday, saying County Executive Mangano did not follow proper procedures when he put the tax back in the budget.
Democrats are now threatening legal action against the county executive and NIFA.
The Democrats will be meeting Tuesday to discuss whether they will move forward with legal action.
News 12 tried to contact County Executive Mangano, but has not yet heard back.
