Nassau and Suffolk police say there will be increased patrols throughout Long Island in response to what the FBI is describing as an act of terror in Boulder, Colorado.
It happened Sunday as a group of pro-Israel demonstrators participated in a peaceful demonstration.
The demonstrators gather weekly to show their support for the hostages who were taken by Hamas during the attacks of Oct. 7, 2023.
Police say a man reportedly tossed a number of Molotov cocktails at the crowd.
The bottles hit the ground and exploded in flames.
A number of people appeared to have suffered burns, according to the FBI.
It was not immediately clear how many people were hurt as of Sunday night.
Both Nassau and Suffolk police say they have received no information of similar threats on Long Island.
In Suffolk County, however, authorities say they are increasing their presence near religious institutions.
