Colleen Tierney is a mural and mosaic artist from Bellmore. She turned recyclable glass into art and turns heartbreak into beauty.
From ceiling to the kitchen floor, every inch of Colleen's walls is covered in art. She turned a life-changing accident into a stunning new career in mosaics and murals. "I had a bad accident a long time ago and I shattered both my hands, and I needed to keep busy because I was devastated and overwhelmed," said Colleen. "I bought glass and I started cutting the glass to keep my hands active," she added.
After years as a mural artist, Colleen found herself starting over after a life-changing injury. With her children grown and a new house of her own, she is creating art that reflects her experiences and her joy. "I love doing art, it makes my brain really happy," said Colleen.
Now self-taught in mosaics, Colleen transforms shards of glass into stunning pieces that brighten homes and hearts. All of her pieces hold meaning and tell her story. "You have to dig to what's in your heart and because these are permanent things that you're making and it tells your story," said Colleen.
While her hands may move a little slower than before, her vision and passion for creating are stronger than ever.
