Montauk is alive with the sound of music this weekend as the 14th Annual Montauk Music Festival brings a wave of performances to venues across the east end.
Throughout the seaside town, live music can be heard from nearly every corner, as almost 100 artists perform at around 35 different locations. From bars and restaurants to outdoor spaces and pop-up stages, the festival has transformed Montauk into a full-blown music destination.
“It’s such a unique way for local artists to be showcased throughout town,” said Julia Raye, a singer-songwriter who lives in Montauk. “Montauk has become such a great music hub, same with East Hampton, and I feel like over the past few years we’re seeing so much more live music.”
The festival, which began more than a decade ago, was created to boost the local economy before the busy summer season while giving musicians a platform to reach new audiences. Most of the performances are free to attend, with the exception of the main stage events on Saturday and Sunday, which require a cover charge.
Festival-goers like Michele Worley, of Oceanside, say the event is a can’t-miss tradition. “We come here every year, and we see such variety. And it’s original music, and the talent out there is unbelievable.”
With its mix of genres, intimate settings, and community energy, the Montauk Music Festival continues to hit all the right notes.
The festival runs through Sunday evening.
