A new coffee shop opened Friday in Paterson.

Mokafe Coffee House, located on Main Street, serves handpicked coffee from Yemen and Guatemala.

The coffee shop is owned by Paterson residents of Palestinian descent. The owner is also Yemeni.

“I’ve been in America all my life, so I always thought about everything to bring real, good coffee from Yemen, where the coffee was originated from,” said owner Abe Ayesh. “A lot of people don’t understand. Coffee drinking started in Yemen and then moved to the rest of the world. So, I wanted to bring it to America.”

Coffee reportedly first came from Yemen over 500 years ago.
