It was a packed courtroom Friday when the Miller Place man accused of killing a teenager took the witness stand at his own trial.
John White, 53, is accused of shooting 17-year-old Daniel Cicciaro to death after the teen showed up at his doorstep and allegedly threatened his son in August 2006. White faces manslaughter charges after admitting to fatally shooting Cicciaro.
White told the jury that on the night of the incident his son, Aaron, claimed people were coming to kill him. White said he then got his gun and went outside where five to seven people were coming up his driveway and yelling racial slurs.
White said he was backing up toward the house when Cicciaro tried to grab the gun from him. That?s when, White claims, the gun accidentally went off and shot Cicciaro. ?I didn?t mean to shoot,? White said.
Prosecutors are trying to prove White intentionally shot the teen in the face.
White?s son, Aaron, has already taken the stand in his father?s defense during the trial.
