It may be cooling down in the tri-state, but things are still heating up in Milford.

At Kinship Glassworks, visitors can try their hand at glass blowing – creating everything from vases and cups to ornaments.

Owner Christopher DeMott said his passion started back in 1986, when he first saw molten glass being shaped by hand. That spark eventually led him to open the Milford studio in 2020.

“There’s about 300 pounds of glass in there,” said DeMott, pointing to one of the furnaces. “We do a lot of made-to-order work, including memorial pieces where you can incorporate your loved one’s ashes in glass. And then we do a glass experience, which gives people the chance to try it themselves.”

Customers learn how to shape and blow molten glass with the help of Kinship’s instructors.

Beyond being a creative pastime, DeMott says the studio has inspired a deeper passion in many of those who visit.
